Goodwill Counselling is an attempt to create and nourish a space where we can connect to one another. Unconditional welcome is an experience very few of us have had the privilege to experience. As a result, we learn to hide, from others and from ourselves. At Goodwill, we aim to provide the compassion and presence necessary to witness that pain such that it may be processed. In doing so, we learn to accept and integrate all parts of ourselves and gain the momentum and motivation to build a life consistent with our values.
The aim of therapy addressed here is empowerment. This can then be a vehicle for change in terms of healing past and present pain. “Between stimulus and response there is a space, in that space is our power to choose our response, and in that response lies growth and our freedom” (Viktor Frankl). This growth and freedom equips us with the ability to reach towards our goals. As such, the name “Goodwill” was chosen to highlight the general attitude that uplifts us all, “a kindly feeling of approval and support : benevolent interest or concern.” In other words, a compassionate way of being.
